GSAC Wholesaling - What's Involved?

Becoming a GSAC Wholesaler involves some different steps than becoming a Retailer. Primarily, there is just the one (major) required component - providing an anonymously-accessible GSAC hierarchy of flatfile data holdings (full and inc) and monument catalog (full and inc) using the current GSAC standard(s). Achieving this objective is more or less up to the Wholesaler, as they can do so using any programming language or shell scripting tools of their choosing.

Please note, a database management system (DBMS) is NOT required for GSAC Wholesaling purposes, although it can be extremely useful, not to mention faster and more efficient, to implement a database (using the GSAC schema) for automated data holdings and monument publication needs. As such, beyond adherence to the GSAC standard (with regard to flatfile dhf and mc (inc and full) publication and provision) their are really just two optional components to point out, namely a database server and the GSAC Perl libraries.

Basically, beyond writing your own utilities/programs to conform to the GSAC specification for Wholesalers, there are two strategies outlined herein that rely on software developed by SOPAC specifically for the GSAC project:
