SOPAC Online Map Interface....For GSAC Exploration : Now available!(2003-04).

SOPAC now has a version of it's Online Map Interface serving the entire set of published GSAC monuments as context layers for the user to explore, print, and query. GPS monument layers for this interface are created nightly using metadata services available through SOPAC's GSAC Retailer Interface. To launch this map interface visit Maps.

GSAC Web Client : Upgraded to Wizard Interface(2002-12).

The GSAC Web Client has been upgraded to a more advanced interface using a Wizard theme where the user is walked through various stages of search criteria, output configuration and user preferences. In this new format the user can jump from stage to stage if they wish, or follow the Wizard's lead through a GSAC search. All major features of the previous Web Client have been retained, while additional new features, such as Printable Pages, Configuration Summary and Retailer Designation have been added. New basic Wholesaler Strategy developed - (2002-10-02)
In an effort to help relieve some of the burdon and complexity involved with joining the GSAC as an active Wholesaler there now exist binary executables one can use to participate in the GSAC with minimal effort. Combined with a valid configuration file and a visible FTP tree these utilities (gsac-pubs, gsac-pubd and gsac-wadmin) can be used almost immediately by both new and existing GSAC Wholesalers! Absolutely no experience with any particular programming language is assumed, you don't need a database, and you have a choice of supported operating systems and hardware platforms to choose from (currently Linux and Solaris only).

GSAC Wholesaler: GSAC Wholesaler Kit 1.5 released! - (2002-09-20)
  • Underlying Perl library improvements to better support future exception-handling and automated Retailer-Wholesaler feedback/awareness in the event of persistent problems or irregularities with a Wholesaler.
  • Added support for new proximity querying feature in GSAC::Agent::Postgres.
  • Added first-level of support for new Retailer-Wholesaler interaction bypassing FTP and traditional flat-files through use of HTTP GSAC Services (e.g a Retailer-like service provided by a Wholesaler). Using the new gsac-sync-ng utility a Retailer will be able to interact directly with a Wholesaler's GSAC database via the Wholesaler's HTTP GSAC Service. This new means of communication will eventually render the traditional FTP flat-file GSAC tree unnecessary for those Wholesalers with a GSAC database. Currently this strategy is still under development....as "delete" functionality has not yet been completed.

Command Line Client updated to version 1.24 (2002-09-06)

Recent improvements to the Command Line Client include support for a proximity constraint as part of a user's query restrictions, uncompress support for removing .gz or .Z compression from compressed files (requires gzip utility), and an option for allowing duplicate files to be downloaded with the same filename from more than one archive.

Being evaluated : Support for hatanaka compression removal from RINEX observation files.

    GSAC Web Client : Upgraded(2002-08).

The GSAC Web Client has received another major batch of upgrade work. A major redesign of the interface and improved Javascript support have enhanced the Bounding Box and Timespan for Data components of the Search Criteria section of GSAC.cgi. To see what else has changed, or to try the Web Client for the first time, click here.

Command Line Client updated to version 1.21 (2002-08-15).

Recent improvements to the Command Line Client include a seamless retailer failover support such that requests from the client are automatically submitted to the next available/preferred retailer in the event of query failure or temporary Retailer maintenance. Also included is support for char_id argument usage...allowing users to include one or more (site-based) four-character identifiers as part of their criteria.

Coming soon : Support for a proximity constraint in query restrictions, which will allow a user to specify a point (in latitude, longitude decimal degrees) anywhere on the face of the earth, plus a radius in meters, to help them construct their query.

    SOPAC GSAC Database: Software Upgraded(2002-08-15).

SOPAC uses the PostgreSQL database for GSAC Retailing. The PostgreSQL database was upgraded to version 7.2.1 which includes a Statistics Collector to help with performance tuning. The upgrade also includes PostGIS 0.7.1 which provides some additional GIS functionality.

GSAC Development : Several GSAC components upgraded (2002-07).

In an effort to help spur interest in the GSAC, as well as make preparations for the upcoming Boulder GSAC Workshop (July 23 & 24) GSAC development has focused on polishing several different components of the GSAC software. From a user's standpoint, both the Web Client and the Command Line Client have received minor improvements in their interfaces and support for GSAC Retailer directives (# lines with information about query results, server status, etc). From a wholesaler's perspective we hope the much-needed improvements in the GSAC Wholesaler Kit will simplify the installation process and provide clearer instructions on how to incorporate use of the kit into regular archiving activities.

GSAC Web Client : Upgraded and integrated into main web site (2002-05).

In an ongoing development effort for the GSAC the Web Client has received some much-needed attention and integration work. On the surface the changes are minimal, however, there have been several improvements made to the underlying GSAC Service at SOPAC, making both the Web Client and the Command Line Client easier to work with.
